Axie Infinity is an NFT game on the Ethereum blockchain. Players are encouraged to buy, breed, and pit monsters called Axies against each other to win in-game currency.
In order to start playing, a minimum of three Axies (starting at ~$17) must be purchased from a local marketplace. Each Axie has a unique set of characteristics: the rarer its properties, the stronger it is.
There are two types of tokens available in the game, SLP (service) and AXS (governance). Smooth Love Potion (SLP) is used for paying breeding fees. Axie Infinity Shards (AXS) is an ERC-20 governance token for the game that allows for staking and payment use.
What is SLP?
Smooth Love Potion (SLP) is a cryptocurrency primarily used for paying breeding fees; however, it can be traded on exchanges. The digital asset serves as a substitute for experience points and is a major source of income for Axie Infinity players.
SLP is stored in the Ronin wallet and used for in-game assets on the Ronin sidechain, which was developed by the Axie Infinity team to combat Ethereum network congestion. It facilitates fast and smooth transactions with low gas fees.
SLPs can be obtained in three ways:
- on cryptocurrency exchanges
- as a reward for participating in raffles from the developers
- by playing Axie Infinity
SLP farming in Axie Infinity
There are two modes in the game for earning SLP.
PvE
Adventure mode is recommended for new players. Here you can earn up to 100 SLP per day. The mode consists of several levels, from easy to difficult. To be successful in PvE mode, you must continually train your Axies.
PvP
Arena mode, where you fight against other players. The higher your opponent’s rating, the more SLP you get if you win. To win consistently, you need to build a well-organised team. There’s no money to be made if you put together a team without planning it thoroughly – the team must be as balanced as possible.
Each battle in any of the modes costs one unit of energy. When you run out of energy, you can continue playing the game, but you’ll no longer receive experience or SLP. It takes between 2 and 6 hours to regenerate energy.
The game also features daily quests, each of which earns you 50 SLP for completing. You can get such quests, as a daily check in, complete 5 arena matches, complete 10 levels in PvE mode and others.
How to get SLP for free
Not everyone has the start-up capital to buy Axies, but there are investors with no time to play who are willing to invest in a successful team. The investor provides you with a free team; you play, earn SLP and share your earnings with them on pre-defined terms. This system is supported exclusively by users of the game itself, so you will have to put in the time and effort to find such an investor (e.g. on Twitter or Discord).
How to use SLP in the game
Axie Infinity SLPs are required to breed characters that can then be sold. The cost of breeding starts at 100 SLP and gradually increases according to the number of breeds. Each Axie can be bred a maximum of seven times and cannot be bred together with an Axie that came from the same parents. Each breed is more expensive than the previous one; the cost of the seventh breed is 2100 SLP. This limit exists to prevent hyperinflation in the market.
Prospects for SLP
Today, the token is facing rather high inflation, which the development team has to combat with updates by introducing new SLP burning mechanisms.
Although only a beta version of the game is available right now, that hasn’t stopped it from gaining tremendous popularity. An official release could encourage an even greater influx of new players, and consequently an increase in the value of game tokens, including SLP.
